Frequently Asked Questions

How often should I change my filters?

Pleated filters should be changed at least once every 3 months.

Carbon filters should be changed at least once every 3 months.

Austin Air filters can last up to 5 years.

Metal filters should be washed monthly.

If you have a whole-house air cleaner, please check your model for details.

Higher MERV filters sound great! What's the catch?

Because the filter media is denser, your system will have to work harder to pull the air through a higher MERV rated filter. Higher MERV filters may not be appropriate for weak systems - very old ones, or ones which are too small for the house. Your bill may be higher due to the unit running longer, or you may not get the airflow and cooling you want.

Where are the throwaway filters?

Polyester and fiberglass throwaway filters are becoming less common as more and more organizations realize that low-MERV filters are inadequate for protecting people from harmful air contaminants which can cause or exacerbate health conditions. Many organizations now recommend a minimum of MERV 8 for homes, schools, and offices.

If you have a special situation where lower resistance or extra airflow is required, please contact us for more information.

Are your products made in the USA?

Most of them are! All products by Airflow Products and Austin Air are made in the USA. Look for the Made in the USA sticker on the product's page.

How do I find my filter size?

Option 1: If you look at your old filter, the dimensions and/or part number are likely printed on the frame.

Option 2: Measure the inside of the opening of your return where the filter goes. This is the size filter you need.

Orders

I can't find this unusual size, can you help?

We stock many odd sizes, and if we don't have it, we'd be happy to make it for you! Please contact us for pricing.

Why is my filter smaller than the dimensions printed on it?

The size printed on the filter is the size of the return opening it goes in. The filter itself needs to be slightly smaller than the return frame so that it will fit easily.

How will I know when my order has shipped?

We will send you an email with tracking information.

Can I get a bulk discount?

If you are a business customer, please contact us.
